Write to me
I reply within one business day, Monday to Friday, 9:00–17:00 ET. Notes that arrive on a weekend wait until Monday. I read every message. I do not publish a letter unless you ask me to.
Before you write
The most useful letters name a page, a sentence, or a stretch of that week as you lived it. If you are sending a correction, tell me what I got wrong and how you know. If you are sending your own version, you do not need to make it tidy. I can sit with an untidy letter. I would rather have three true paragraphs than a polished story that leaves the holes out.
Please do not send another person’s private details. Please do not send screenshots that show a name, a number, or a workplace that is not yours to share. I will not publish that material, and I would rather it never arrive. If you need to mention a household, keep the detail small enough that a stranger could not use it as a map.
This inbox is for the blog. It is not a place to report an emergency, and it is not a place to ask me to name a company or an official. I will not do that work. If you are in danger, use local emergency services. If you want the public record of how I handle letters, it is also on the questions page.

Monday–Friday, 9:00–17:00 ET. I am at this desk on those hours. I am not a walk-in counter, and a visit without a note first may find the door closed.
Response window
I read and answer Monday to Friday, 9:00–17:00 Eastern Time. A letter that arrives at 16:50 on a Friday may get its reply on Monday. A letter that arrives on Saturday sits until Monday morning. I keep that window because a slow answer holds up better, and because I do not want this inbox to pretend it is staffed through the night.
If your letter is a correction, say so in the topic field. Those are the notes I open first on a weekday morning. If you have not heard back after one full business day, write again. Hosting can fail in ordinary ways, and I would rather see a second copy than have you assume I chose silence.
If it's urgent
Thoughtsfromhere is not an emergency service. I cannot dispatch help, restore a payment, or reach a household on your behalf. If someone is in danger, contact local emergency services in the place where they are. If you need a same-hour human being and you are in Toronto, use the public services built for that hour. Then, if you still want to write about the week once the hour has passed, the form above will still be here.
