This page describes what I collect when you write to me, why I collect it, how long I keep it, and how to ask a question about your own information. It is written for a personal blog, not for a company with a registration number to display.

What this page covers

Thoughtsfromhere is a personal blog. When you use the contact form you send me a handful of fields so that I can read the letter and reply. I do not run a marketing list. I do not sell addresses. I do not build a profile of you as a reader from the pages you open. The only reason I keep a message is to answer it and, if you have asked for a correction, to mark the change on the page.

This page is personal opinion about my own practice, written in plain language. If I change the practice I will change this page and I will date the change. I last reviewed it on 18 February 2026.

What the form collects

The form asks for a name, an e-mail address, a message, and a topic. It offers a telephone field you may leave empty. It asks you to confirm that I may store the message in order to reply. Those are the fields I need. I do not ask for a date of birth, an account number, or a workplace.

I use the name so I know how to address you. I use the e-mail so I can reply. I use the telephone only if you have given one and only if an e-mail reply has failed or you have asked me to call. I use the message as the content of the letter. I use the consent tick as a record that you were willing for the letter to be stored for that reply.

I do not pass these fields to anyone for marketing. I do not pass them to a list broker. If I ever needed a technical person at the hosting company to recover a mailbox, that person would see mail the way hosting staff see mail. That is the limit of the sharing I can describe from this desk.

How long I keep a message

I keep a message long enough to reply and to finish any correction that came out of it. I do not keep correspondence longer than 12 months as a matter of ordinary practice. If a letter is still part of an open correction at the end of that year I will keep it until the correction is dated on the page, then I will let it go.

If you ask me to delete a message sooner, write to [email protected] from the same address you used on the form. I will confirm when it is gone. I cannot delete a copy that may still sit in a hosting backup for a short technical window, and I will say so if that window is still open.

Hosting logs

Thoughtsfromhere runs on commercial shared hosting. The host keeps the technical logs that hosts keep: addresses of machines that requested a page, times, and ordinary server errors. I do not use those logs to build a picture of a reader. I do not attach them to your name. I look at them only if a page is broken or if the form itself is misbehaving.

Those logs are not something I designed. They are part of renting a server. If you want the host’s own description of logging, you will have to read the host. I can tell you what I do with what I can see, and that is the sentence above.

Your rights and how to write

You can ask me what I hold about you from the contact form. You can ask me to correct a name or an e-mail if I have copied it badly. You can ask me to delete a message. You can write those requests to [email protected] or use the contact form. I reply Monday to Friday within one business day.

Please do not send another person’s information in order to make a point. I will not use it, and I would rather not have it. If you believe I have published something that identifies a household I did not intend to identify, say so plainly and I will treat that as a correction.
